Opera for the Masses
Watched a show on BBC Scotland last night about football on TV which described football as "Opera for the masses" and found that I had to agree. 103,000 people watching anything in the same place does create a larger than life stage, and the events in Scotland at the weekend (Celtic losing a year long struggle in the final 90 seconds) was as tragic as anything seen on stage at Covent Garden.
I was surprised by how many commentator's phrases I remembered verbatim, even from the 70's (well, ok, the late 70's).
"It's a disaster for Scotland" was the most memorable, obviously enough...
