Gowfing

Back at the cottage - made a flyer from work and got up here around 7.30, and now I've been very well fed (thanks to[livejournal.com profile] unblinkered ) I have a very nice glass of Alsace to hand, and Daniel Müller-Schott and Angela Hewitt making a very decent fist of Bach's Gamba Sonatas on the stereo. Life is very bliss.

I forgot to post about my first round of golf this year. It was last Sunday, probably the nicest afternoon in the West of Scotland this year so far, and I played at my old club. I gave up membership about 17 years or so, mostly because I'd moved to Newcastle. I suspect I would have given up sooner rather than later anyway though. I rarely played more than twice a month, I hated taking 5 hours for a round, and I never really fitted into the slack and blazer crowd (much as I wish I could - I love Wodehouse's golf stories). It was good to be back, though. I recognised the charge hand, if not the pro, and the course is in really good nick. They've built a new hole, the 16th, which is shaping up quite nicely. I hadn't played in six months, and I lost 2 balls and made about 5 3-putts on my way to a 99; not fantastic, but creditable (at my best I'd have been lucky to break 90 there). I was supposed to be playing with my Dad and my Uncle Frank, but my Dad pulled out with an injured wrist, poor chap. I was two down at the turn, two up after 14, and Frank made a 15 footer on the last green to beat me, which is all you can ask for on a lovely sunny afternoon.

I won't be rejoining, since it still doesn't make economic sense, but it was good to be back for the day. Apparently you can step in the same bunker twice.
