Made it to the cottage, a little late on Friday night, and watched "Captain America" on DVD. This is part of my run up to the Avengers Movie coming out on DVD tomorrow, so I'd better watch The Hulk tonight.

On Saturday I had a long lie, then talked to [livejournal.com profile] widgetfox for a while. After that, I drove down to Tarbery and played golf for the first time in ages. The course at Tarbert is a 9-holer, and a joy to play. I dodged some showers, and got home in time to watch Doctor Who (I also watched Strictly Come Dancing, purely in a spirit of research. It had many colours). I enjoyed Who - the cyborg character really reminded me of Deathlok The Demolisher, one of my favourite 1970's comic characters, and I was glad to see the Doctor's willingness to let a baddie die from last week come back to bite him on the arse.

I made it to bed around midnight, and woke up about 9. That gave me lots of time to get out on my bike, and work off part of a big breakfast. I almost wimped out because of the showers, but in the words of Mr Steve Earle, "The rain ain't going to hurt you none" so I got out and made a quick dash up a couple of hills, and then a loop along the canal and back via Lochgilphead. I have two bikes, both Specialized - one is a touring bike (or rather, a Tri-Cross, which is cycle-cross bike that I've fitted out as a tourer) and a mountain bike, a Rockhopper hard-tail. I haven't ridded the Rockhopper for a while, and had forgotten how much fun it is. Slower than the tourer, to be sure, but the fat tyres and front shock-absorber make it very easy to ride over wet paths and tree roots, and the gears make hills a lot easier.

Back from that and I had a shower and headed back down to Tarbery for the Quaker meeting they have there every second Sunday. It was my smallest meeting, 5 people including me, and very friendly it was too (excellent cake). The Tarbert Music Festival is on this weekend, so I walked along to the fishermen's pier to hear Skerryvore's set. Standing on the pier, my attention split between them and the view of fishing boats, sea and sky, I was close to tears when they covered Dougie MacLean's "Caledonia": "And if I should become a stranger, you know that it would make me more than sad..."

I need to clean up now, and put some of my breakables in the spare room, in case I don't get back until the floors get redone.

It's been a good weekend...

It doesn't escape my notice, by the way, that this song can make me homesick for Scotland when I'm actually here...
