Ten working days till I get paid...
I'd been intending to make an iPhone my one unnecessary purchase for July. But now Apple have gone ahead and announced a new version (not sure I like it as much as the original, but will wait till I see it in the metal, um, plastic) and 02 are probably going to make it a cheap/free upgrade, so I NEED to make another purchase to fill the gaping void in my consumerism. (My frvolous purchase for August will be fencing gear - I've a starter pack all picked out, and will be canvassing fencing folk for their opinions nearer the time).
The Macbook, bless its little cotton socks, is not a great games machine, and I haven't had a console for more than two years. I can't say I've missed having one, but, hey, all the cool kids are doing it. The new Gran Tourismo is coming on Playstation, and I've played every other version. Many friends have taken to waving small plastic objects about, and talking about being Wii-fit. I fear and honour these folk. And the X-Box looks really cool, but is made by Microsoft and breaks down a lot.
OTOH, I have a chance to buy a pair of very good indeed floor-standing speakers, at a knock down price, which sound very good indeed. I listen to music most days, and for the first time in ages I have a room with the acoustics to do a good system justice. I do have a reasonable pair of speakers now, but they could easily be pressed into service elsewhere (even, I have just realised, as rears in a very nice surround system. If I can get wireless adapters for them).
In the past, I'd just have bought both. I may still do that. But since the Internets have wisdom...

The Wii is great fun, but I'm not totally sure we've got the use out of it. Really enjoyable, though, and you can play together. :-)

So, speakers. Which will still be a nice enhancement to any gaming platform you eventually purchase, so they're like a meta-buy!

No x-box, though...I quite like our Microsh*te-free status!

The Kefs will make very fine front speakers in a 5.1 set up. Indeed Kef do sell a Q-series 5.1 setup which features Q3's as the front two. These are the model up.
