Unabashed plug
After mentioning on http://www.livejournal.com/users/itchyfidget 's journal the other day that coffee houses are much more pleasant places to hang out in than pubs, and that Glasgow at least does have some that open later than Starbucks, I put my money where my mouth was last night.
I spent a very pleasant time in Bean Scene http://www.beanscene.com/about/index.asp drank coffee, ate food, resisted the temptation to buy CDs and went home not smelling of smoke, and only a little bit wired from the caffeine. So, big recommendations for beanscene - it seems to be more based around a community vibe, with music on sale, good food, comfy chairs, and what seems to be a group of regulars, and open until 11 p.m. I'll certainly be using it more, and if anyone is coming to Glasgow that's where we'll be meeting instead of a smokey, smelly, stinky pub.
I wonder if I could get them to sell wine.
