One day like this a year will see me through.

I’m not having a one day festival to celebrate my 45th birthday on the lawns outside Inverary Castle, with food from Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, and drink by Fyne Whiskies/Fyne Ales,  but if I were, this would probably be the bill:

Martin Stephenson

I can’t imagine anyone more likely to get the day off to a lively, cheerful start,

Eddie Reader

Not just because she’d sign “Happy Birthday” to me in a husky way, but, yeah, that’s got something to do with it

Lloyd Cole

Playing a set list specially crafted by me, including “Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken?”, “Old Enough To Know Better”, and “What He Doesn’t Know”. He’d also move us into that area of cyncicism and world-weariness so important to a good party.

American Music Club

Playing whatever the hell they want, so long as I get to hear “Blue and Grey Shirt” and “Windows on the World”

Steve Earle and the Dukes

Starting up with “The Other Kind” and making sure that “Angel is the Devil” and “Sparkles and Shines” get a look in. Maybe encoring with “Galway Girl”

Tom Waits

My favourite act, ever, and someone I’ve never seen live. Since it’s me asking, I’m sure I’d get “Hold On”, “Blue Valentines” and “Blind Love”.

After show party would be in the castle’s main hall, with a set from Duke Special.

I’ve been pretty ruthless in the bill – no one dead, for a start, and only acts still producing good new work (so I’ve left out Justin Currie and Del Amitri, Hipsway, The Silencers, Deacon Blue, Love and Money, and on, and on, and on…)

So: What about you? What’s your dream line up? And where would it be?

Hey! Happy (belated, I guess) birthday!

That's a good line-up.

I'd have Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Muse, and the Beastie Boys (Best. Live. Band. EVAR!).

Hmm, half of them played Connect last year at Inverary - but you haven't missed the birthday, it's March 12th.
