I love xkcd

Just had a very enjoyable time finding out about Erdos numbers on wikipedia. Back to work, I guess.

See I knew I had heard of Erdos. But when asked at seven this morning I just could not place him.
Two hours later though he suddenly popped into my mind. Which is not something you want dead mathematicians to do rightly.

I love his suggestion for his own epitaph: I have finally stopped getting dumber.

I Gauss that's a good thing to be thinking about. Euler prove of anything to do with mathematics, really.

I've no Cantor to that pun.

I'll russell something up.

I hope it's in a suitable Fermat.

Maybe not. I'm Hardy-er than you'd think.

Here's looking at Euclid.

I'm not even going to try and top that. I concede, with delight.

I'm pretty pleased with that one myself.

I'm feeling badly for you right now, in that you didn't know about Erdos numbers when you were 17....

Then again, you wouldn't have had the pleasant time today with Wikipedia.

I guess it works out either way.

Maths passed out of my life at around 17, when I accepted my place for Law and turned down the offer of Physics and Astronomy. But we still wave (or particle) at each other from time to time.
