(no subject)

Fun night out last night, which started slow and built. Stops on the Road To Hangover included:
Glasgow's Only Micro-Brewery (I don't drink beer)
The Ubiquitous Chip (Good Food)
Jinty McGinty's (Live Oirish singer, and a blonde barmaid with a Large Black Bush)
The Loft (vast bar above the Grosvenor Cinema)
and, finally,
A Nightclub in a Crypt (Oran Mor)

A good time was had by all, but the play-list in the night-club (and the fact I was back in old student stamping grounds) had me wondering if I'd wandered into the time-slip 'tec show currently running on the BBC (Life On Mars):

Blue Monday
Planet Earth
Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)
That stupid one with the Leo Sayer riff
and Jump by the Pointer Sisters.

I was distracted slightly (along with every other guy in the place) by the pair of blondes who decided to treat their boyfriends to a display of simulated lesbianism on the dancefloor, but left before it all went horribly wrong.

I wonder what happened to Neil and Ewan?

It's a running joke we've had for about 15 years - I quirk my eyebrow, ask her if she has a black bush and she brings me a large one. With ice. If the pub's too loud to be heard, she just sets it up while I'm on my way to the bar.

(Black Bush is a very nice variant on Bushmills Whisky).

You lost them? They lost you? Was any of this deliberate?

I was drinking BB during the latter end of the very messy Friday a couple of weeks ago and it was all proceeding just fine until the landlord got behind the bar...

She IS the landlord, but I didn't feel up to a lock in last night.

Our landlord is Clive, a.k.a. the Sgt-Major, and he can twist a request for a G&T into a dirty joke - mine for BB when I'm (ahem) tired & emotional is fuel to the fire...

Come closing time Eileen will nod you into a little snug as the doors get locked- I've had some good nights when the live act gets their guitar back out, and the songs start following the stories start chasing the whisky. When I wore a younger man's clothes, that is.

Discussion at the bar around the day the licencing laws changed:
"No, I'm not extending my opening hours. No, really. They've just made what we always did legal, that's all."

"Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got..."

I miss the days when i lived 90 seconds away from Jinty's, when one of my flatmates was a barman there, and I never left the place alone. Ach well, that was in another country...

Nice to know I can still go back now and again though.

Indeed. I can't - my place like that was The Fishing Admiral on Water Street in St John's, which is now an Indian restaurant. The manager kissed me & made an announcement the night I was finally legal to be there (19th birthday). I'd had my own stool at the end of the bar for over 2 years by then. ;)

I thought he kissed you when it was legal to do that - what is the age of consent for a Newfie anyway? :-P

[identity profile] morgaine-x.livejournal.com 2006-02-24 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
I was friends with his girlfriend - so he & I weren't on kissing terms!

I think the legal age of consent is 16, but the historic one is rather lower.

I take it you have given them back again? ;o)

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2006-02-24 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, I still wear them some weekends ;-)

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2006-02-24 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
I left them in the nightclubs with their tongues hanging out. It seemed the right thing to do. Of course, neither is answering their phones or emails this morning...

At the very least.

[identity profile] itchyfidget.livejournal.com 2006-02-24 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
You, sir, are a rake and a rogue.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2006-02-24 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
Why thank you, m'am.

I'm pleased that you took that comment in the spirit in which I intended it :)
