Or is it Humble? Not that it matters, particularly, because I haven't. I do feel like I should fill you in on the past 4/7ths of a week, though.

Monday was all about travelling. The flight to Newark from Glasgow was on time, I had a spare seat beside me, it took 7 and a half hours, and that's about all to report. I seem able to shunt those 7 1/2 hours off into some parallel universe. I'm sure they passed, but I couldn't tell you how. Except for watching Casablanca on the in-flight movie selection. It seemed appropriate, somehow. I had a four hour layover in Newark, most of which I used up clearing immigration, eating, and trying to get my phone to work. I did, after a fashion, and after a lot of faffing around.

The shuttle flight to Providence was in a turbo-prop plane. Given fore-knowledge of that, I'd have taken the train instead, but fore-knowledge isn't always available. Made it to Providence anyway, schlepped my very heavy bag to a taxi, and got dropped off at the Hilton. After letting the office know I'd arrived (and after being told I was wanted 90 miles away the next morning) I popped out for a very nice Cuban meal, and managed to stay awake till almost 10.

Tuesday was also all about travelling - 90 miles to Glastonbury, where the project team is improbably based (one thing you need to be on this project is right on top of the customer. Ninety miles is not right on top). I liked the project team, and I liked the steak dinner we had after work. I did not like the two hour drive back through torrential rain, but I did make it (driving on the right isn't that hard to get used to, but I'll never get used to the seat belt being on the wrong side).

Wednesday and Thursday I worked from my hotel room, and are mostly distinguishable by the evenings - on Wednesday I wandered down to the riverside, and enjoyed the amiably shambolic studenty air, Thursday I crossed the Interstate and walked into the local Little Italy, which isn't so Little. I had a mound of tortellini, which I couldn't finish, and popped into a gallery opening on the way home. My Scottish waitress has promised me huge discounts on future huge mounds of pasta. I'm enjoying the place, but some self-protective measures have had to be taken. Two apps might help - one is Fitness Pal, which is helping me record my food and exercise, the other is Piggy, which has a similar function for my finances. Without these, I'll probably eat myself into a hear attack, which would save me from spending myself into penury.

I haven't adjusted to the time difference yet - it's just after 10, but I'll be asleep in half an hour or so. I've been invited to a daily 8 a.m. project call, which I think is a bad sign - building in meetings outside normal working hours is a symptom that you don't have enough people to do the work in normal hours, or that they aren't well enough organised. Or both.

Still, we'll see.

Current feeling? I like Providence. Work is too early to call, and I like having a gym a couple of dozen or so steps away.

And on that note, goodnight Vienna.

1. Portions are so enormous in the us / so tiny everywhere else!
2. 10:30 is a normal bedtime for me if I have an 8:00 meeting, what jet lag do you speak of?

So how often are you going to be travelling the 90 miles? Sounds a bit sucky :/

Americans start early and then fizzle out out by 4.30 and are gone by 5. In my experience. Apart from the European management consultants, who stay up drinking Manhattans until stupid o'clock.

I'm just trying to stick to one course!
And normally I'm up around 6.30, in bed by 12...

Depends how long it takes me to get cleared for the local customer site.

Hmm, haven't had a Manhattan since I got here... I quite like an early start and an early finish - though I'm used to early start and late finish.

I'm more of the 10am-6pm sort, myself, and I've been loving my 2-8pm hours in my part-time job at a bed & breakfast.

And, at my tertiary-market airport, I've had lots of experience with turboprop planes. They're slower than the commuter jets, and the different noise takes some getting used to, but they've pretty much always got roomier seats than the new scrunched commuter jets. I especially like the DeHavilland Dash-8. I guess it's now owned by Bombardier, who also build the CRJ, which I find cramped. (The Embraer is even more so.)
