Making It Work
May. 30th, 2012 10:28 pmSo, I was considering a whine of epic length about the tribulations of being paid fantastically well to sit in a luxury apartment while the sun shines and read interesting books. But you've all seen Lost In Translation, right? Right? (Or as Bill calls it "Beautiful Rich People Whine In Luxury Hotels").
Instead I got some of my shit together, made a couple of minor but significant advances at work, and devised a plan for the evening which actually worked. I meditated, I exercised for 30 minutes, I swam a few lengths, sat in the hot tub for a while, tidied up the flat, and made a reasonably nice dinner from scratch (stir fried pork and noodles with pepper and mushrooms. I had to improvise here and there, but it was perfectly edible).
I also discovered that Radio Scotland has a pretty good through the night show, which if you time shift it five hours gave me something to listen to from 7 o'clock onwards. I even got my email read out and my request played (Dignity, by Deacon Blue).
The stuff that was bothering me this morning is still bothering me tonight, but I didn't spend all evening worrying about it. And now I'm off to bed to read this which I'm enjoying. With reservations (hell, I brought myself up on Hume, Hobbes and Adam Smith - there's nothing here to surprise me).
Tomorrow I might finally get to spend some time on the client site. That has its upside in that I'll be busier during the day, and its downside in that I'll be even more out of contact with the U.K. And you know what? I'll deal with that.
Night, all.
