The Amazing Spider Muh...

Just back from the cutely sized Edinburgh IMAX, and a bright and breezy couple of hours. I must admit, I've never thought much of Andrew Garfield's work in the past. But this time he really nailed the part. And not an easy part to nail. He had to portray shy, dorkish young man, who is unable of uttering a complete sentence, who hides behind his hands or slouches around in a hoodie, but who becomes capable of amazing athleticism, drawing gasps from all around, and converting an initially hostile public into cheering admirers.

Yup, there's no doubt about it, he does Andy Murray to a tee.

(The resemblance is, actually, charming and unmistakable, if wholly unintentional - especially in his dialogue, and in the gangly look).

I thoroughly enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Murray, sorry, Spider-Man. It stayed true to the comic's 1960's roots, so much so that it managed to catch me with two twists which were drawn directly from the Stan Lee/John Romita days (Stan's appearance is charming, by the way). The photography was well up to scratch, even though, as usual, IMAX 3D drew attention to a few set pieces, at the expense of the rest of the movie (but those set pieces are very well done).

All in all, most enjoyable, even if I do wish that Marvel Studios had the rights to all the Marvel Heroes (Oscorp's Skyscraper Headquarters, btw, is a twisted version of Tony Stark's "Avengers Tower".

Fox and Woskar originally came from a colleague of PubShy's called Andrew Garfield, so I get slightly freaked out every time I see that he is starring in a movie.

Bet he'd give it all up to have them back...

Over my cold, dead body.

Just as well he has all that Hollywood money to console himself with, then.

Excellent advice. Or an elephant.

Or a spider. Just to confuse people.

It could be his side-kick. The Amazing Spider-Man's Amazing Spider.

One of these little guys, maybe. Because they're adorable.
