Hello, I Must Be Going

I went out for drinks with a friend in Edinburgh last night. We decided to go to Indigo Yard, which is in Edinburgh's West End. I haven't been there for about six or seven years (possibly 10. Good God) but I have fond memories of it from then, and I'm also going there for an office night out on Thursday, so I thought I'd check it out.

We arrived, found a table, got comfortable and started to chat. I can chat for Scotland, and Wendy is not the most taciturn person herself, so it was about 10 minutes before we realised that we hadn't been given menus, or asked if we wanted drinks. I spent about 5 minutes trying to catch a waiters eye. Then I went to the bar, which was empty, and spent another five minutes waiting to be approached.

I went back to the table, looked around for a waiter. Nope. So we left and went next door to Zizzi's, who provided a very nice Italian meal, with excellent service.

So my warm memories of Indigo Yard have been cancelled, and I'm not looking forward to going there on Thursday. If there was a bit more time, I'd try to pull our business from them on Thursday, and I'll certainly veto any more company spend there.

I think I'm getting a bit less tolerant as I get older...

I'm definitely less willing to put up with shit than I used to be.

I remember the framboise champagne cocktails at Indigo Yard...mmm. Fingers crossed they were having an off-night.

This story doesn't suggest a lack of tolerance. It suggests a startling lack of service! Unless you somehow failed to notice they were closed for the night, let yourself into the dark building, and were alone for your entire visit...

This reminds me of the last time I ever ate at Denny's, almost a decade ago.

From the time we walked in to the time food was actually set in front of the hungry toddler was 45 minutes. I figure anyone who can't put some food in front of a poor kid under 2 in a timely manner doesn't deserve my business.

That was me, btw, I hadn't noticed the logout and didn't have time to pop in after I managed to log in again....
