Placeholder, mostly, since it's 11.30 on a school night and I still have some sleep to catch up on.

Thursday and Friday were both nights out, one in Edinburgh, and one in Inverness. They both went well, and late, and I enjoyed myself immensely. I got more dancing in on Friday than I have all year. Though possibly I could have skipped the last club and got back to the hotel by three. Ah well.

Yesterday I drove what may be my favourite route in the world, from Inverness down Loch Ness and Loch Lochy (honestly) turned right at Ballachulish, West to Oban, where I had lovely fish and chips and a nice wander, and then on down to the cottage, where I had TV (my first look at Dexter) and an early night.

Today I drove home from the cottage, stopping at the Oyster Bar to buy All The Tasty Things Ever (seriously - a side of Bradan Rost, some crab claws, two cheeses, some pate, a fruit loaf and good, fresh bread).

Tonight I ate some of it, then watched Manhattan with a little cask strength Caol Isla.

But that's not the point of this post.

What I wanted to say is that I've caught myself, a few times, smiling with pleasure at very small things. At the click a whisky snifter makes, when I put it down on a glass table. At the turrets of Inverness Castle, seen through a light mist, at a particularly nice line of dialogue in the Harry Dresden books I've started mainlining recently. I think this might be happiness, and I'm not sure what's causing it, but I think I'll go with it for a while.

Not sure what next week will bring, except a night out in Glasgow on Friday, and an invite to meet up with a pal on Saturday night (which might be in Edinburgh or Glasgow). I think that work-wise I'll be spending more time in Inverness for a bit, which should be fun. And now, give or take a half hour or so of reading Summer Knight, I think I'll slip off to sleep.

Have a great week, people.
