It's all gone a bit busy again...

I had a nice weekend - dinner with old friends on Friday, and The Imitation Game on Saturday. Sunday was about not very much, though garden centres, a couple of episodes of Breaking Bad and some absurdly late night Christmas tree decoration came into it.

I drove up to Inverness last night, in just over 3 hours. It was an uneventful journey, despite a yellow snow weather warning. Yellow snow, the worst kind...

I'm at my usual hotel this week, but, for the first time I can remember, I'm doing 5 nights in a row. I can remember my friend Bill describing "Lost in Translation" as "the misery of rich beautiful people in luxury hotels in exotic cities" and this week I can sympathise. It's dark, I'm eating too much restaurant food, and I'd like to be closer to home. Poor, poor, pitiful me. But I've brought up my Macbook, and I have wifi, and hell, not one ever died of too much indolence.

The extended stay is partly because I'm stupidly busy, and partly because the office Christmas party is on Friday night. Due to Scotland's new drink driving rules, I'll be going for a late check out on Saturday, but not so late that I can't do the drive down the A82, which is about an hour longer than going down the A9, but is one of the most beautiful drives I know (up there with Highway 101 in the States).

On Sunday I'll be seeing Bladerunner on the big screen, for the first time in a long while. It seems strange to be living for the weekend on a dark Tuesday afternoon, but that;s the way it seems to be right now. I'll be working for four days next week, and then I have two weeks off.  I have no idea what I'll be doing in those two weeks, but it should be interesting...

Hooray for Christmas holidays! I saw there was some weather headed your way, but as usual it was portrayed as an "attack" by the media. Wondering what it's really like without all the sensationalist wording. Stay warm and cozy!

I love that descriptor of LIT. Very well put. "I'm dissatisfied with my privilege" sums the character's angst up quite nicely.

I am SO ready for a break. Next Friday I fly out. It will be a time!

Local descriptions of the Weather Bomb have varied from "A bit blowy", "What my mother would have called a good drying day" and, my favourite, "Weather."

Having said which, it managed to drop a few inches of snow on Inverness at the end of the week. Not enough to make the trip back home dangerous, just enough to make it gloriousl.

Glad to hear that you get to travel soon. As they say in your part of the world, "Happy trails."
