Just a quick update to say that Rogano's was as good as I'd hoped. If the place is going downhill, it must have started at the top of Everest. Very high quality fish, served simply with plain vegetables - healthy and tasty. At £65 a head, including wine (three courses, dessert wine, port, coffee and tablet) it isn't an every day venue, but worth it for a special treat.

*pines for tablet*

There used to be a great little fish restaurant called the City Merchant in, predictably, the Merchant City. Don't know if it's still there, though...last time I ate there was about 8 years ago!

I think it's still there, and it's my mum's favourite place - I think the portions in Rogano's are too small for her.

But if I'm in the Merchant City, I always want to eat in Gandolfi's.

See, I haven't been to Gandolfi's since 1995, when I got a bit upset about the complete chaos their wiring was in. I still remember ranting something about "they have this beautifully crafted furniture and it's totally ruined by the wires hanging off the ceiling". I was a somewhat idealistic, 20 year old architecture student at the time.... Maybe I should go back and see if they've tidied up their electrics since...?

Oh, they have - but I liked it in chaos. There's also a very interesting bar shoe-horned in upstairs that I'd be interested in getting your opinion on.

Maybe we can have a look at it together if we ever manage to have that coffee? I'm bound to be in Glasgow again at some stage....

Also (and I can't be bothered clicking my way to [personal profile] munchkinstein's journal to continue this conversation): I used to live on Park Terrace, too! 2001-2003. Maybe we were neighbours? Which would be cool, provided you aren't the guy that used to park his TT up on the grass and pointing the wrong way down the one-way street.

Actually I was there in (counts on fingers) late 2004 till mid 2005 so we missed each other :-(

Looks like I'll be away from Thursday night, so coffee this time looks unlikely. But there will be other coffees!

Actually it was late 2003 to mid 2004: your flatmate wasn't called Emma, was she?

Ooh, sounds good but pricy... Perhaps I'll try the Cafe rather than the main restaurant!

I like the cafe - a much more laid-back atmosphere, but they don't do Lobster.

Sounds wonderful!!

I've been too blessed this week - made my own favourite dinner on Wednesday and had the Scotch Malt Whisky Society's steak baugette last night - add that to three hotel breakfasts and I'm starting to creak...
