Firefly/Deacon Blue

Yes, I know it's Filk, not Fan-fic, but I've been stuck with this in my head all day

A Brown Coat I meet walks up our street
He’s a worker for the Alliance
Has been twenty years
And he takes no lip off nobody
And cargo out the gutter
Puts it in his hold
And never seems to mutter
And he packs his hold with junk and scrap
The Alliance call him bogie
He never lets on
But I know ’cause he once told me
He let me know a secret about the money in his kitty
He’s gonna buy a Firefly
Gonna call her S’renity

And I’ll sail her through the black ‘Verse
Through planetoids and worlds
I’ll be smuggling waifs and strays
They’ll be doing their rounds
They’ll ask me how I got her I’ll say I stole the money
They’ll say isn’t she pretty that ship called S’renity

And I’m telling this story
In a faraway scene
Sipping down saki
And reading Ho Chi Mihn
And I’m thinking about home and all that means
And a place in the winter for S’renity
And I’ll sail her through the black ‘Verse
Through planetoids and worlds
I’ll be smuggling waifs and strays
They’ll be doing their rounds
They’ll ask me how I got her I’ll say I stole the money
They’ll say isn’t she pretty that ship called S’renity

And I’m thinking about home
And I’m thinking about faith
And I’m thinking about work
And I’m thinking about how good it would be
To be here some day
On a ship called S’renity
A ship called S’renity
That ship

William Goldman (who adapted the book for the movie) tells some great stories about Misery in "Adventures in the Screen Trade".
Espescially about "The Lopping Scene".

I enjoyed that, even though I haven't done the Firefly/Serenity thing yet.

I useed to do those, back in the day. I remember one about a Dept of Employment weekend retreat (booze-up) based on Prince's "Raspberry Beret". Gawd, it was so long ago, I sent it to the other offices via telex!

(Can't I get my pension yet? Oh yeah. I haven't got a pension....)

My only previous attempt involved "There Was a Lensman, A Scottish Lensman" and died a death.

The Firefly thing is well worth doing, although you have to have a longer attention span than the average TV viewer and give it 3 or 4 episodes to grow on you. Luckily the box set is dirt cheap on Amazon (about £12).
