A Game of Two Halves

I think I'm going to enjoy the World Cup. Compare and contrast the reviews of England's friendly last night in the Glasgow Herald:

Had Corporals Jones and Fraser stepped onto the pitch, muttering “We’re doomed” and “Don’t panic”, the chaos surrounding England couldn't have been expressed more eloquently.

and the Guardian:

Gerrard puts England into overdrive

For the record, I'm supporting Scotland - Jason Scotland.

What spectacular sour grapes. I particularly liked the suggestion that the first two England goals were suspect because Beckham's cross was too good.

Absolutely marvelous, isn't it? I'm hoping that the standard is kept up for the next few weeks. I didn't actually see the game, so I can't comment on the accuracy of either review, but I loved the difference of opinion...

The Independent also watched a different game:

Eriksson stumbles upon Plan C

Sven Goran Eriksson claimed his latest tactical experiment had been vindicated by victory over the no-longer mighty Magyars of Hungary last night, despite an unconvincing first-half performance that raised more questions than answers about the line-up the Swede will select for the World Cup.
