So Far, So Good...
Jan. 9th, 2012 09:00 amThere's an old saying about the guy who falls off the Empire State building. On his way down, as he falls past each floor, the workers inside can hear him repeating, "So far, so good..."
I got to the gym this morning, and burned 395 calories in half an hour on the cross trainer. That's about 10% down on what I was managing last year (and a long way down on my 465 PB) but not bad for my second day back. I'd like to be back over 400 by the end of the week, which is an achievable aim, I think.
First weigh in of the year puts me at 102.5 kilos. That's almost exactly what I weighed at this time last year, I think. I've been within 5% of 100 kg for the last four years or so, and that puts me just on the obese side of overweight as far as my BMI goes (about 31, where 30 is obese). The good news is that I haven't balooned up over Christmas - this is roughly what I was before the holiday. Having a look at my diet, the excess calories are coming from sweets and alcohol, both of which have crept up in the last couple of months. So I think I'll be following the medical advice, and cutting out alcohol on some days of the week. And no more puddings, unfortunately.
Overall, my health is good just now. I need to be pretty exact on my various medications - I've been a bit lazy about taking Metformin three times a day, and I notice the difference, so that's probably my priority, along with hitting the gym.
