A Tasty Meme before breakfast
Nov. 11th, 2005 08:32 amWhat's your favourite...
wine: It depends (this may be a theme...) Sauternes, or something from Alsace. A 10 year old Gerwutztraminer, Yum.
beer: No - don't touch the stuff
other beverage: Beverage. What a silly word. But Scotch Malt Whisky Society casks, espescially numbers 4, 14 and 24, (Highland Park, Talisker and McCallan) with 14 having the edge.
hot drink: A dangerous weakness for triple-shot skinny lattes, or Twinnings Breakfast blend for tea.
fruit: Only if I have too..Brambles from the side of the road to Kilberry in Kintyre
vegetable: No thanks. Oh, all right, potatos
cheese: Blue, usually - Dunsyre or Lanark
nut: Cashews (bless you)
ethnic food: Indian or Chinese or Thai or Italian or Mongolian or occasionally American
fast food: The seafood shed on the Cal-Mac pier at Oban, for their scallops in Garlic butter with brown bread and salad, all in a tub for 4 quid.
pizza: DiMaggio's Calzone - meat and cheese and mushrooms and Yum!
main dish: A good steak - although if you'd said starter I would have gone with Loch Fyne Scallops. In fact, for a main dish their seafood platter is hard to beat, although you really should share it.
salad: No. I'm Scottish
soup: Cullen Skink! The amuse bouche (or whatever you call it) in the Ubi Chip is great, and Gandolfi's is superb.
snack food: Dates!
cookie: Tunnocks teacakes
pie: caramel shortcake
ice cream: Crolla's, who used to run ice-cream vans in Glasgow when I were a boy, and still turn up in the odd cafe or restaurant.
