Got that Friday feeling….
May. 16th, 2008 04:40 pmIt’s been unseasonably seasonable in Glasgow this week, actually feeling like summer, with clear skies and temperatures nudging the 20’s. I’m still in a strange place between the old and new flats, but there will be a fairly clear transition on Sunday, when two men and a van will arrive at the old place in the morning and we’ll clear as much as possible to the new flat.
That means doing some prep tonight and tomorrow, by which I mean throwing clothes and books into boxes and bags. There isn’t much by way of big stuff to go- a sofa bed, a couple of bookcases and a table – but it’s amazing how much other stuff there is. Plants, hi-fi stuff, pots and pans, even spices and stuff from the kitchen.
It’s a pity there’s so much to do, when what I really want is to kick off my shoes and enjoy the new place. Still, I’m sure I’ll fit in the odd glass of wine outdoors, and the dog will still need walked.
I’ve also got a guest from the States who needs to be showed the town. His name is Flat Stanley (go Google him, I can’t do links from work), and he’s been sent by a work mate of my friend Jim, for his son’s geography project. We need to take lots of pictures of him in Glasgow, then post him home. So that should be fun.
Wifi has been set up at the new place, but no TV yet. I’m looking forward to getting some proper hi-fi in too – the acoustics should be great. I’ve had a look at What-hifi, and I haven’t really seen anything to tempt me. Maybe I’ll have a look at the one-box systems that were just getting started 4 or 5 years ago when I stopped buying separates….
I’ll also probably succumb to buying a game system. Not sure what yet. The PS3 rates well as a blue-ray DVD player, but the Wii seems to be a lot of fun. Hmm, I can see a poll coming on.
All of this, of course, comes after I get paid. I’m still eking out this month on the 7.5 days I got paid for April, and I still won’t get another pay-cheque until the end of May. Most of that cheque will go to clearing off overdrafts and tax, but there might be a little left over to buy shiney. And the new iPhone should be out by the end of June…
Enough day-dreaming. The sunshine is calling, and I have a lot of boxes to pack tonight…
