Round, Round, Get Around, I Get Around
May. 27th, 2008 11:36 pmJust back from a nice holiday weekend, spent mostly at the flat. After the last minute rush to get everything out of the old flat, Friday night was lazy and chilled - good Indian food, House series three on the DVD.
Saturday we discovered a fantastic Chinese supermarket in Saracen, of all places, with a great wet-fish counter (Wet? Some of them were alive, including the lobsters and languistines), lots of roast duck and great dim-sum. I've a feeling that we'll be shopping there a lot.
Then we went off and Unblinkered bought a bike - an honest to god Specialized mountain bike. She'll be picking it up on Thursday.
Saturday night was Eurovision chez Psychochicken and Zantic, which was gate-crashed by the majestic Delilly, who became our house-guest for the rest of the weekend. See psychochickens journal for the whole, sorry tale.
Sunday I left blink and delilly at the flat, and drove to paradise. Did I mention that my windscreen was cracked? A stone kicked up on the Motorway last week, and I heard a god-awful smacking noise. I didn't notice the crack until Friday, though, since it was low down on the windscreen. Didn't stop me running up to the cottage at the weekend to pick up my bike and the good amp and speakers for the new flat (and it didn't stop me driving like my hair was on fire, either - well, the car was empty apart from me, there were some nice open stretches, and I was having fun). I stopped on the way down at a week cafe by Crarea Gardens, and enjoyed the sun and some comfort food.
Sunday night was Chinese food and Ghostrider on DVD - a bit cheesey, but fairly true to the original comic, which counts for a lot with me.
Monday I messed about with hifi while Blink did useful stuff, and then two of my oldest friends came over for dinner. I've known James for around fifteen years now. He's smart, funny, has his politics in the right place, and is just astoundingly open and generous. And very, very smart.
I've known his partner for a wee bit longer. Since I was 17, in fact, which is 27 years ago. Kay has been my friend, my partner, and my friend again in that time, and it delights me that we're still the same friends we were when we met in first year at University. Apart from the McGee twins, who I met when I was 12, she's the oldest friend I have, and still one of the best. We had a great night, fantastic food, good chat, music. Lots of chat, on fact. They've just bought a new place, and are selling their old one, and they might bring their boat up to the cottage this summer.
I dropped it Scooby at the glass place this morning to get it repaired, which meant I was sans car tonight for the fencing. I did have my bike, though, so I cycled over to Knightswood, about four miles away, had two very entertaining hours of fencing, and cycled back. The fencing was great - only three folk and two coaches again, and lots of good advice. After six weeks, I may very nearly have my en garde right. And munchkin will find lots of competition when I go along to club nights - no longer is he guaranteed his spot as worst fencer...
Off to shower, now, and look forward to cycling down to pick up Scooby tomorrow morning, then go through to the SMWS in Leith to pick up a bottle or so.
Tonight I got word, kind of, sort of, that an old friend is putting her life back together, after a pretty tough year, and that makes me happy, too.
Life, me old chums, could be a lot worse.
