Admittedly, I'd be enjoying myself more in [personal profile] unblinkered were here, but I'm managing ok for a weekend.
Yesterday was a lazy morning, breakfast at a place called naked soup, getting Scooby washed, then a very enjoyable game of golf with Paul at a course I hadn't played before, Douglas Park out in Milingavie. I'm still getting my head round the idea that you can play some fairly exclusive private courses on a Saturday through the devious means of phoning the pro and booking a round. It does make the idea of me joining a club even more unlikely.
Yesterday's round started off by reminding me why I don't like playing on a medal day - we were stuck behind a three-ball who seemed determined to explore every yard of the course. When we finally got waved through I'd gone two down, and between that and some slack play I was 4 down after 11. I did rally, though, and squared things at the 16th. Paul made a long putt to half the 17th (swine) and then I played my worst shot of the day at the 18th. I made a five, but he holed out for a safe par, and beat me by one whole. Curses. I paid for dinner at the clubhouse (lovely view, average food), and we were out of there by six o'clock.
I did geek things last night, and wired up the remaining three speakers to give me surround sound (sorry unblinkered) then watched a couple of movies. The second one was "Blast From the Past" with Brendan Fraser - silly, but fun, and with "I Will Buy You A New Life" on the soundtrack.

This morning was equally slow-paced, but I got in some good exercise. Merlin and I walked down the Kelvin to Charring Cross, cut back up Woodlands Road, and ended up settling in outside a place called The Mad Hatter on Great Western Road for brunch. The 2 or 3 mile walk might have slighly compensated for a proper Scottish breakfast - Egg,square sausage, very good potato scone, bacon, black pudding and toast, two lattes and a blueberry muffin, and plenty of change from a tenner. I flicked through the Observer, just enough to confirm that no-one in the English press has really caught on to the fact that last week's Labour loss in Glasgow East was also an SNP win - it isn't just a protest vote, as it might have been in Newcastle or Manchester, it's actually a vote for independence, or at least a stronger Scottish government.

I came back the long way, going back down to the Kelvin and along the walkway, and had a closer look at some of the graffitti under the bridge at Kelvinbridge Underground station, and at the bridge itself.

More of that sort of thing here, and now I'm off to cut the hedge...
