Burning Calories and Candles.
May. 30th, 2009 11:11 pmA vastly entertaining weekend so far, not hurt at all by the amazingly kind weather. Last night was my first boy's night in the West End for a while. It actually turned into a two little boys night out, since the last of the three amigos got a better offer.
We had planned on going to The Liquid Ship to catch up with Peter, my favourite bar man, but it was such a nice night that we stayed in Cottiers till chucking out time, quaffing wine by the bottle load and enjoying the buzz (the music was provided by an amazing, well, radiogram is the only thing I can call it - a wooden cabinet with a muzzy, warm sound that went very well with the evening. There's a fine balance for me between being the outsider in a crowd, and working that same crowd, but last night it was enough to watch the weaving, and smile.
We wandered off to Oran Mor when Cottiers threw us out, and although it was a nice crowd I wasn't really into it, and wandered home to find
unblinkered and her friend Helen catching up - we ended up chatting till 4, and I wasn't in bed much before the dawn.
On Friday I'd picked my bike up from the cycle repair man. I'd left it for a service, and to have new tyres fitted, and a rear rack. Willie changed the chain and cassette, sorted out my brakes problem, and fitted a lock and a computer for me.
Today, when I finally crawled out to bed, Eric and I cycled off to Helensburgh via Loch Lomond to meet up with
unblinkered ,
kapusta_volante and Helen at Charles Rennie Mackintosh's magnificent Hill House. The ride was pretty straightforward, although I did take a direct hit from a water bomb near Renton. It cooled me down. We did 30 miles in just shy of three hours, and it was good practice for next week's 60 miles in one day, followed by 45 or so the next day.
Tonight we went off to show Helen the bright lights of Ashton Lane, and now I'm completely stuffed with excellent hamburger from Ketchup, and too tired even to have a nightcap. We bumped into someone I used to work with 4 or 5 years, for the first time I've seen her in 4 or 5 years. She seemed very sure that I looked happier, and younger than I did then. Well am I going to argue?
Good night world - tomorrow will be a walk in the park...
