The Wisdom of the Locker Room 1: Breakback Mountain

I'm not going to see this, obviously (I paid money to see The Hulk, which Lee staged as a psychodrama about anger management and parental abandonment issues: fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me).

Anyway, the locker room filled me in on it yesterday. Apparently:

1. Their is no prurient gay sex - only a few seconds of breasts, and "I've seen worse on East Enders"
2. Nothing happens. A lot. Then it doesn't happen again.
3. People were leaving half way through - a scandal.
4. It's not even a cowboy movie - they're fucking shepherds. "So they filmed in Aberdeen, then?")
5. "Award worthy? It wasn't even cinema worthy"
6. "So how was John Wayne?" "I've had better."

The locker room has spoken...

So, is the locker room the best place to get film reviews?
The tv advert for "Brokeback Mountain" amused me - totally devoid of any reference to the bit of the movie that is getting the most attention...

The Locker Room seems to be a deep font of masculine wisdom on all sorts of matters, from Sport (well, football) through religion (last night's referee was definitely a Mason/Opus Dei charter member) through relationships (that wumman's doin' ma fuckin' heid in) to personal grooming (jeezus, can you no leave some ai that after shave in the boattle, whit's wrang did ye cack yer knickers).

I intend to present the best nuggets here...

it's impossible that they could be a mason & a member of opus dei...

Unless they were in deep cover.... Didn't you see my either/or slash?

You need to read [livejournal.com profile] ajhalluk's review of this.

You're right, I did, and so should anyone else who needs a good chuckle. Great stuff.

I wouldn't have thought the locker room, with all that surging testosterone, was the type of place where a film like that would be appreciated?

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
Well I did cut out the introductory stuff about "You went to see what?" "No, I went with my girlfiend" "Aye right, that's what they all say"

[identity profile] nicnac.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds about right :o)

Next post: The Wisdom of the Sauna, about the three women I shared a sweat-session with last night, and why one of them doesn't like saunas.

[identity profile] morgaine-x.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
*And* the stalker story? huh?

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel this has been hyped up too much now. I'll never live up to it...

[identity profile] morgaine-x.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Now, it isn't the hype, it's the patience! I never thought you were the type to let a woman down... *pout*

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm working on it... of course, if waiting longer prolongs the pout, I've always been a sucker for that.

[identity profile] nicnac.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. Personally I hate saunas, but that means I don't go in them. Was she forced at gunpoint or something?

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Well since I tend to share a locker room with a crowd that includes Kiwis, Aussies, Scots, Welsh and "people" from Somerset, I expect the sheep will get quite exhaustive coverage.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I hoe they don't exhaust them too much...

[identity profile] rhythmaning.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought the locker room would be just the place to discuss a gay cowboy movie...

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
With much manly snapping of towels and slapping of rumps?

Not that sort of locker room....

[identity profile] itchyfidget.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Your locker room has no soul. None.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Which cuts down on the athlete's foot.

[identity profile] itchyfidget.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't you feel a bit of a heel for making that joke?
