Lazy Saturday
Nov. 7th, 2009 12:06 pmUp at the cottage, via another very rainy journey, and planning on kicking back for the weekend. I had a brainstorm around noon yesterday, and decided that if I was going to be eating healthily, I might as well do it in style, and put in an order for two lobsters from the local fishmonger in Tarbet. Well, 12 miles away is local up here. So they're snapping away out on the porch, and I've got my feet up in front of the fire.
Dieting and gym is going well, btw. I'm always mystified and misled by the first week weight loss, but it amounts to around 2 kilos, which is enough to take my BMI (yes, I know it's nonsense, but it's a number and I love tracking by numbers) under 30 again.
I've joined a diet site, too (the Guardian's, don't laugh) and will be putting together a GI based shopping list for Monday onwards. GI because I'm a Type 2 diabetic, and low GI should be my guide, but also because I like most of the things that go into a low GI diet - rye bread, oats, beans and suchlike work for me.
What I eat isn't actually as important as what I don't eat. If I can stay off sweets and crisps and cakes I'll be much healthier. I also have to prioritise exercise, which means finding time to get to the gym. I'm one of these strange people who enjoys half an hour on a cross trainer, or an hour on a bike outside, or a good game of tennis or badminton. I'm just a bit crap about making it an important part of my day.
Enough about that. Tonight is the Lantern Parade in Lochgilphead. The local kids spend a couple of weeks making fantastic lanterns, and then there's a bonfire and fireworks. Last year's photos are here. This year promises a Doctor Who theme. Should be fun...
