Bit of a fiasco getting to the gym this morning. I forgot my phone, so had to double back and pick it up, and then when I got to the gym I realised I'd forgotten my wallet. I should realise that getting up and out by 6.30 only works if I have everything prepped the night before. Still, I was only 10 minutes late getting there, which meant 20 minutes on the cross trainer instead of 30. Still counts as a win.

This weekend was busy, but a lot of fun. I did some shopping on Saturday morning, and picked up a shirt at the Thomas Pink sale, and two pairs of Doc Marten's at their sale (there's a DM shop in Glasgow now, which makes me very happy - even if I still won't pay £180 for a pair of brogues there). One pair of sensible black ankle boots for work, and one gloriously silly pair of brown Paisley pattern shoes. I'll probably get no wear out of them at all, but I had them on all day Saturday, to various responses.

First was from my dad, who regarded my tweed blazer/silk scarf/chinos/gloriously silly shoes outfit as evidence that I was looking prosperous. He was at his first visit to the IMAX, by the way, which he declared OK, but nothing he couldn't get from his new surround sound set up at home. He also napped through part of Mission Impossible. I was a bit underwhelmed by the Batman footage - Bane WAS incomprehensible, and the only thing that kept my attention was wondering why they were flying across Scotland.

Next stop was the ironically named Committee Room 9, a fine pub which backs on to Glasgow City Chambers, and a going away bash for my first boss at Scottish Power, a lovely guy called Colin Livingstone. We keep in touch through Facebook, but I hadn't seen him, or anyone else at the bash, for about 5 years. I got a lot of very welcome ego-boost about how well I was looking, and the shoes were a hit.

I then headed off for Suzanne's birthday drinks at The Bon, which was as lively as ever. I was judged "sauve", which will do in a pinch.

One of the unplanned advantages of Saturday was that I ended up not drinking on Saturday, as it was just handier having the car. That meant I was in good shape on Sunday for another unplanned jaunt, this time the 90 miles to Ardrishaig and back. My friend Marie had expressed interest in the Polo that I've had sitting at the cottage since Keef moved to London, many years back. I told her I'd be glad to get rid of it, and she came up to get an idea of how much work it needs (probably a lot). I picked her up in Glasgow, and we had a very pleasant trip up and down (apart from lunch, which was fairly vile). We had a lot to talk about, and being in the car for 4 hours meant that we could. So we did. Since she isn't reading this, I can say that Marie is one of the wisest people I know, as well as one of my oldest friends. We covered a lot of ground, while we were covering a lot of miles, and we laughed a lot.

Last night was Sherlock, and a reasonably early night. This morning was chaos, and tonight I'll be at a recording for Mark Thomas' Radio 4 show. I'll probably even be featuring on it, or at least my manifesto suggestion will be. More on that later, though, since this entry has grown a lot more than I expected.
