So I've been on my tod for a massive 18 days. I don't think this is long enough to form a clear picture, but, surprises.

1. It's oh so quiet.
I haven't been watching TV, or listening to music or the radio. Which is unusual. I have always had a tendency to stick on music or Radio 4 when I'm on my own. Not happening.

2. Cheers.
I'm not drinking much. I had an ill-advised amount of red wine on the night I went out for a French meal, but that was mostly down to forgetting how much there was in a pichet.I bought two bottles of malt whisky on Sunday, and a wine pouch on Monday, and haven't broken the seal on any of them (that's not a usual rate of buying - Sunday I was in Loch Fyne Whiskies, which has a realistic claim to be the best Whisky shop in the world, and they always fix me up with the good stuff - this time it was a Ben Nevis (Ben Nevis shut around 15-20 years ago) and a Baillie Nicol Jarvie, which isn't a single malt, but it is a very good blend that I associate with Edinburgh).

3. I'm not going out much. Yes, I saw [livejournal.com profile] widgetfox last night, but that was my only night out this week (eating on my own doesn't count). I have plenty of friends in Edinburgh, who've all offered to keep me company, but I didn't seek it out. Being on my own feels ok just now, except when it doesn't...

And on that note, I'll fold down my sofa bed.

Denise and I really liked the Ben Nevis malt we got to try after dinner at the Ben Nevis Inn in Fort William (I think). We wished we could have found a bottle of the stuff.

I was already contemplating it, but now I'm sure. I'm going to have to have a wee dram while watching the game.

The Ben Nevis distillery (and yes, it was in Fort William) is now a hotel, I believe. Maybe you stayed in it :)

For a long while you could only get it from the Scots Malt Whisky Society. The new bottling is an attempt to reproduce the original style of Highland bottlings - it's peaty, and very heavy, completely different from the light, unpeated expressions that are fasionable now.

So what if you turned on the radio or accepted an offer to go out...? Do you think you might feel better? Worse? The same? Not worth it?

Mostly I'm about being with the feeling just now, not trying to change things (that's the "Massively Premature" bit above). I've accepted an invite from Dan to go to a political meeting next Tuesday, I have a ticket for The Avengers on Sunday, I'm sure things will be what they'll be.

I've also crafted a massively complicated "holiday" starting next Friday, which will keep me very, very sociable for around 10 days - a wedding, a family outing, two flights, one sleeper train, three days in Prague...

I am batching it for a month while Leit is visiting his parents (I'll join them in Florida in a couple of weeks). It's been very interesting, seeing what goes back to old patterns and what I miss. I have actually enjoyed the chance to spend more extended and intimate time with my girlfriends, which is really nice, and tells me that I need to continue making that a priority. But around the house it kind of stinks. It's all learning.
