The Long And Winding Road
Jun. 20th, 2012 12:20 amOr: Someday, maybe even someday soon, I am going to sleep in my own bed.
When did I leave for Rhode Island? It feels like a long time ago. And before that, I'd been in Prague and London. Now, I'm settled down in a sleeper car, on my way back from London to Glasgow.
The whole trip needs a lot of posts to describe it, but mostly it goes into the category of loooong. I had planned to get to Glasgow tomorrow morning, do a round trip of optician, doctor and hairdresser, and get to the cottage tomorrow night. Unfortunately, I can't do all of that in one day, so I'll probably have one more night in a hotel in Glasgow, following three nights in a single bed in a London hotel. I am getting too old and too fat for single beds.
It looks like I've managed to avoid jet-lag, by staying up for most of Saturday. This is just as well, since I had a full three days in London, and here I am tapping away after midnight. The London trip was a mixture of business and pleasure. I got to hang out with
widgetfox for a couple of days, and then had a productive meeting with my current employers. It was one of those high level meetings were they pronounced my future, offering boons and such like if I chuckled at their jokes. I give great chuckle. The upshot is that I have an extension to my contract with them (subject to the top of the greasy pole approving it) which should give me work in Edinburgh through to 2013, at least. This will help a great deal with my planning for the rest of the year, which is no small matter.
I'm going to go straight to my gym when I arrive tomorrow, for a swim and, mostly, a shower, and then I'll be fit to face my hometown...
Nighty night, all...
