A Tasty Meme before breakfast

What's your favourite...

wine: It depends (this may be a theme...) Sauternes, or something from Alsace. A 10 year old Gerwutztraminer, Yum.

beer: No - don't touch the stuff
other beverage: Beverage. What a silly word. But Scotch Malt Whisky Society casks, espescially numbers 4, 14 and 24, (Highland Park, Talisker and McCallan) with 14 having the edge.

hot drink: A dangerous weakness for triple-shot skinny lattes, or Twinnings Breakfast blend for tea.

fruit: Only if I have too..Brambles from the side of the road to Kilberry in Kintyre

vegetable: No thanks. Oh, all right, potatos
cheese: Blue, usually - Dunsyre or Lanark
nut: Cashews (bless you)

ethnic food: Indian or Chinese or Thai or Italian or Mongolian or occasionally American

fast food: The seafood shed on the Cal-Mac pier at Oban, for their scallops in Garlic butter with brown bread and salad, all in a tub for 4 quid.

pizza: DiMaggio's Calzone - meat and cheese and mushrooms and Yum!

main dish: A good steak - although if you'd said starter I would have gone with Loch Fyne Scallops. In fact, for a main dish their seafood platter is hard to beat, although you really should share it.

salad: No. I'm Scottish

soup: Cullen Skink! The amuse bouche (or whatever you call it) in the Ubi Chip is great, and Gandolfi's is superb.

snack food: Dates!

cookie: Tunnocks teacakes

pie: caramel shortcake

ice cream: Crolla's, who used to run ice-cream vans in Glasgow when I were a boy, and still turn up in the odd cafe or restaurant.

The possibilities regarding your snack food habits are myriad but best avoided, I reckon...

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
Best avoided, but still put a smile on my face...

[identity profile] morgaine-x.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed.
Now - explain this:

"salad: No. I'm Scottish"
"fast food: The seafood shed on the Cal-Mac pier at Oban, for their scallops in Garlic butter with brown bread and salad, all in a tub for 4 quid."

Betcha throw it away...

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Busted. I do indeed throw away the salad, but included it as a public service announcement to those of a more Southerly persausion...

wine: Rioja, Australian Shiraz, red burgundy, Meursault, anything with Montrachet in the title, and I've a fatal weakness for the Pizza Express Montepulciano.

beer: Crag Rat!

other beverage: Hendricks gin and tonic (and it's Scottish, which explains the Dutch name), margarita straight up and no salt, Bellini, tap water.

hot drink: camomile tea.

fruit: lychees and raspberries. Most fruits if they're good, though, with the exception of bananas and anything with pips. Aren't dates fruit?

vegetable: cherry tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. Actually, anything except turnips, swedes, beetroot and sprouts.

cheese: Buffalo mozza

nut: Pistaches.

ethnic food: Indian or Chinese or Thai or Italian or Mongolian or occasionally American

fast food: sushi

pizza: Veneziana

main dish: tagliatelle and tomato sauce, cooked by K. Sushi.

salad: Did I mention cherry tomatoes?

soup: Fish bisque, the one with rouille and cheese and stuff.

snack food: sushi

cookie: Trying to avoid. Pret brownie ain't half bad.

pie: sherry trifle, loads of booze and not much cream

ice cream: Hill Station cinnamon, or vanilla with loads of hot chocolate sauce

According to my doctor, when I proudly told her I was eating a fruit by choice, dates are "natures sweeties."

There should be a category of "Things I can't drink" which includes Gin (K's fault) Sangria (Kenny's fault - though what do you excpect from a sax-playing accountant) and Italian Reds (Badminton club dinner dance).

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and German brandy (Aidan's fault).

In lieu of salad, Favourite Deep Fried Thing?

[identity profile] blonde222.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
have u ever tried a corn dog?

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2005-11-12 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I have, actually, during one of my sojurns in the States - hated it!

wine: bizarrely I quite agree with Frankie about Pizza Express Montepulciano, v drinkable. I also like Amarone, prosecco, South African single estate white wine, and Australian reds, partic St Hallett ones, and that label with the slightly mad old man on it.

beer: not mad keen, but if forced I can choke down a bottle of Miller High Life aka "the champagne of beers"

other beverage: Gin and tonic

hot drink: earl grey tea

fruit: granny smith apples, passion fruit, lycees

vegetable: parsnips

cheese: comte

nut: almonds, coconut.

ethnic food: anything except Mexican.

fast food: sushi

pizza: Four seasons

main dish: roast lamb

salad: tomato

soup: spicy corn chowder; my mother's "cauldron"

snack food: those round French toasty things with currants in them.

cookie: garibaldi biscuits

pudding: rhubarb crumble, bakewell tart, spotted dick

ice cream: coconut.

[identity profile] widgetfox.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Is a coconut an actual nut?

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you being pedantic?

As a matter of fact, are you looking at my beer?

[identity profile] widgetfox.livejournal.com 2005-11-12 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Thought you never touched the stuff.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2005-11-12 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you saying I'm a poof?

[identity profile] blonde222.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You might be right, but if it isn't, what is it?

[identity profile] widgetfox.livejournal.com 2005-11-12 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
T'was a real question.

According to my father, it is a nut - it's a palm.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You are the only person I've ever heard say anything good about Garibaldi biscuits: I've always thought they were more like something given to the army (or shot at the army) for field rations...

[identity profile] blonde222.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
They were, but i LOVE them. I can't buy them though, because if I buy them I eat the whole packet at once.

[identity profile] widgetfox.livejournal.com 2005-11-12 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I quite like them, although they score quite low in the dunking stakes.

Chocolate digestives, every time.

[identity profile] widgetfox.livejournal.com 2005-11-12 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, forgot prosecco. Good call.

[identity profile] pshtaku.livejournal.com 2005-11-11 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
