Movies For Men Who Like Movies For Men
Apr. 4th, 2008 03:47 pmJust back from a proper boys day out with Mikey. We drove up to Cruachan, to take the tour inside "the hollow mountain" and look at the incredibly huge turbine hall 2/3 of a mile inside the mountain, then visited our old dive shop at Gallanch via a very good chippy at Oban.
Now we're back at the cottage, and we've started watching "A Fistful of Dollars", in the knowledge that
unblinkered is bringing up the DVD of "300" tonight.
Which made me wonder what else would be on the bill for an evening of movies for men who like movies for men.
So far we have "Point Blank" and "Get Carter". I've disqualified "Die Hard" on the grounds that Bruce Willis makes jokes.
Any other suggestions?
ETA: We're now watching a "Top Gear Challenges" DVD....

Date: 2008-04-04 03:16 pm (UTC)I think he's got it confused with some other movie. Crank is Jason Statham as a mob hitmam who is injected with a poison that'll kill him when his heartrate drops. Cue hour and a half of violence, drugs, sex and whatever will keep him alive long enough to get the guys who've set him up.

Stalingrad: Hmm.... Yes.
Das Boot: Too foreign. Reading subtitles is hard work after drinking all night.
Seven Samurai: Ditto, but the Western remake is sooooo in.

Of course that leaves out the other networks for men, but they are a bit more subtle about it.

Date: 2008-04-04 03:41 pm (UTC)The whole network is made of Lose, I'm afraid.
Star Wars is for kids, Bond stopped being manly after Sean left, and the Godfather movies are clearly too long.

Clint gets in, but I'm not sure about Brando. Too actorly by half.

Starship Troopers? I went on a girls night out to see that and a guy informed in shocked tones afterwards that we shouldn't have since it was BOY FILM. *snort*
Young Brando rocks! A Streetcar Named Desire just about had my hair on end with Marlon Manly Rage!

A Fistful of Dollars is a charter member
Mad Max 2, no, because of Mad Max 3
The Terminator definitely,
And anything involving Lee Marvin is automatically manly. Except "Paint Your Wagon", which is just, well, wrong.
