It has come to my attention...

... that I have not been ranty enough recently.

Suggestions?

Come to the pub tomorrow. You can rant about the Bon Accord's limited wine selection.

I'm sure if you ask them nicely they'll serve it in a half pint glass for you.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Half pint? No half measures for me thank you very much....

[identity profile] psychochicken.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Good man! We'll make a beer drinker of you yet!

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but I'll match you pint for pint in wine...

[identity profile] psychochicken.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You'll get bored before you get pissed if you try that. Have you any idea how long it'll take me to drink a pint of wine?

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, you drink beer, I'll drink wine...

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Didn't Mr. Burns have something to say aboot a pint o' wine?

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, no having it while you're supervising a nuclear power station in Springfield. Oh, you mean the OTHER Mr Burns...

[identity profile] helenex.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
On a Thursday? How decadent!

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Decadence? Decadence? Drinking absinthe at nine in the morning while oiling up an adolescent for later, now THAT's decadence. Knocking back a bottle or two of Chauteau Clyde at the Bon? Bah, that's mere disolution.
I wonder if Duncan will be there?

[identity profile] helenex.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
In which case the question is: wine. New World vs Old World (is that even a term? Surely European should cover it? Go!

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Old World (well, obviously - you've seen my birthdate).
I've just realised, actually, that there is no better better summation of the old/new world takes on decadence than Hal Duncan Lunan...

Boo hiss! I wanted online ranting and now everyone's attention has been diverted to thoughts of the pub. And I live in a completely different city. You all suck.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
We do indeed. Come visit.

[identity profile] anthrokeight.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
But critically, do they swallow?

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
What about Persian, Lebanese, Moroccan and Algerian wine?

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
What about them? Bring them on, that's what I say. (except, please, no Greek wine).

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Merely making the point that, vinously speaking, "old world" does not equal "European". Personally I am quite fond of Lebanese wine.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, I was in complete agreement (until the memory of resinous wines came flooding back). I've had some fine, quaffable stuff in Morocco too.

And for anyone looking beyond Musar for Lebanese wines...

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
There was a time when Musar was so cheap one didn't need to look beyond it

The Bon Will Be Open. Therefore Duncan Will Be There.

This is how it has always been, and how it always Shall Be. For thus equilibrium is maintained, and all is well in the karmic universe.

Om.

If We Open It, He Will Come.

I'm guessing you didn't go to the university I went to....

[identity profile] unblinkered.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Does that mean you're going to rant at the interwebs and not at me?

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be ranting out loud. As well.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Bah, in my day we had REAL weeping....

[identity profile] parthenia14.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Does this make a change of some sort?

[identity profile] unblinkered.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
When he rants at the interwebs, I don't have to pretend to listen. ;)

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
You need some practice on this "pretending to listen" stuff...

[identity profile] unblinkered.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry dear, what was that?

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be in my bunk.

[identity profile] made-of-paradox.livejournal.com 2008-04-13 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It can be done for only so long before it becomes maddening....

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
More of a "back to basics" sort of thing.

[identity profile] morgaine-x.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
'Fore you gets ranty, tell us how M Jr. is doing.

Then go to it, my son.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
MM the IVth left last night, and is down in Newcastle, en-route for Uni. He's had seven nights of un-interrupted sleep, and I suspect that the trigger for my rantiness is, at least in part, empty-nest syndrome...

[identity profile] psychochicken.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Pub! Tomorrow! Full pub syndrome!

Good to hear Jnr is back on an even keel - pick up your father of the year award at the Bon tomorrow evening.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You're being mighty persausive.

[identity profile] anthrokeight.livejournal.com 2008-04-09 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
*misses the Bon*

Keep throwing, one of these days you might hit it... ;)

I suggest a rant about the youth of today. Then switch to a rant about people ranting about the youth of today just as people have always ranted about the youth of the day. If you have time you can then take the opportunity to rant about Socrates being a git, work your way through various philosophers until you get to someone recent, then wrap up by noting how they said the youth of today suck, thus bringing the rant back to the beginning.

Alternatively, rant about the adults of today. You could run through a similar sequence as above if you like, or do a figure 8 and switch between them every time you reach the start again.
