Come to the pub tomorrow. You can rant about the Bon Accord's limited wine selection.

I'm sure if you ask them nicely they'll serve it in a half pint glass for you.

Half pint? No half measures for me thank you very much....

Good man! We'll make a beer drinker of you yet!

No, but I'll match you pint for pint in wine...

You'll get bored before you get pissed if you try that. Have you any idea how long it'll take me to drink a pint of wine?

Ok, you drink beer, I'll drink wine...

Didn't Mr. Burns have something to say aboot a pint o' wine?

Yes, no having it while you're supervising a nuclear power station in Springfield. Oh, you mean the OTHER Mr Burns...

On a Thursday? How decadent!

Decadence? Decadence? Drinking absinthe at nine in the morning while oiling up an adolescent for later, now THAT's decadence. Knocking back a bottle or two of Chauteau Clyde at the Bon? Bah, that's mere disolution.
I wonder if Duncan will be there?

In which case the question is: wine. New World vs Old World (is that even a term? Surely European should cover it? Go!

Date: 2008-04-09 09:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com
I like Old World (well, obviously - you've seen my birthdate).
I've just realised, actually, that there is no better better summation of the old/new world takes on decadence than Hal Duncan Lunan...

Boo hiss! I wanted online ranting and now everyone's attention has been diverted to thoughts of the pub. And I live in a completely different city. You all suck.

What about Persian, Lebanese, Moroccan and Algerian wine?

What about them? Bring them on, that's what I say. (except, please, no Greek wine).

Merely making the point that, vinously speaking, "old world" does not equal "European". Personally I am quite fond of Lebanese wine.

Yup, I was in complete agreement (until the memory of resinous wines came flooding back). I've had some fine, quaffable stuff in Morocco too.

And for anyone looking beyond Musar for Lebanese wines...

There was a time when Musar was so cheap one didn't need to look beyond it

The Bon Will Be Open. Therefore Duncan Will Be There.

This is how it has always been, and how it always Shall Be. For thus equilibrium is maintained, and all is well in the karmic universe.

Om.

I'll be ranting out loud. As well.

When he rants at the interwebs, I don't have to pretend to listen. ;)

MM the IVth left last night, and is down in Newcastle, en-route for Uni. He's had seven nights of un-interrupted sleep, and I suspect that the trigger for my rantiness is, at least in part, empty-nest syndrome...

Good to hear Jnr is back on an even keel - pick up your father of the year award at the Bon tomorrow evening.

I suggest a rant about the youth of today. Then switch to a rant about people ranting about the youth of today just as people have always ranted about the youth of the day. If you have time you can then take the opportunity to rant about Socrates being a git, work your way through various philosophers until you get to someone recent, then wrap up by noting how they said the youth of today suck, thus bringing the rant back to the beginning.

Alternatively, rant about the adults of today. You could run through a similar sequence as above if you like, or do a figure 8 and switch between them every time you reach the start again.
