Meanwhile back in 1981...
Aug. 3rd, 2008 11:37 pmI was starting University. In the first week I met Kay and Jackie. Kay, the first self proclaiming feminist I'd ever met, and Jackie, who had a tongue sharper than a serpents tooth. We spent most of the next four years together, and most of the seven or eight after that. Andrew and Grace and Ken and Maureen came along around the same time, but Jackie, Kay and I were probably the closest to the Three Musketeers that time and gender allowed.
I just spent an excellent 24 or so hours with the two of them (and James, who recently celebrated not been married to Kay for fifteen years now), and it was lovely - light, bouncy, full of bad jokes and endless cups of tea, rain and midges. I've grown used in the last few years to leaving my partner and retreating to the company of friends when I've had some angst or drama to share or recover from. This wasn't about that - it was about enjoying my friends for their own sake with no agenda apart from that.
I'm looking forward to a whole lot more of that :)
