Operation "Stash The Cash" Hits Snag - Or, "I Haz The Shinies!"

Well it's like this...

I knew I was due a phone upgrade this weekend. I knew this, because I've been calling O2 every ten minutes for the last six weeks whining "When can I have a new iPhone, pleez, pleeezzzzeeeee." I found O2's reaction.... disappointing. They told me to call when I was due (today) and refused to discuss stock levels, reserving a phone, ets etc. On Wednesday I popped into Carphone Warehouse to play with their stock, and the manager practically threw a party for me, called O2 mothership, told me his granny had a 16Gb iPhone in black and that he would pop over that night and kill her with broken beer bottles and get it for me, and call me as soon as he had it. Which he then did. That sort of customer service may not win many prizes from Help The Aged, but it got my business. 
so I picked up the phone last night, and have been stroking it ever since, pausing only to mutter "My precious" and *hiss* at anyone coming near. 

Last night I also got the rest of my fencing gear - socks, breeches, lame, bodywire and *ta-dah!* foil. Unfortunately the lame was too small, and there seems to be a problem with the bodywire, but apart from that all was tickety boo. I loved the sensation of taking guard in an outfit that, well, fit. Before the bodywire problem I had about 4 fights, and managed to score in all of them.

Once that  stopped working, I wandered off to The Dark Side and had my first go at epee, which I really did enjoy - the style is totally different, and the less hunched (well, I hunch when doing foil) style seemed to suit me. Of course, I was soundly beaten, but in a very nice way. I think I'll give it another go next week.

Off to the cottage soon, for a weekend of being rained on and chilling.

I need to sound you out, on possible weekend late September (round about 25th?) when my wee English friends are asking me whether it would be possible to invade, I mean come to Glasgow. Or something. They're using a concert as an excuse.

I haven't got anything...

I'm still trying to work out what we could do. The concert's the Thursday (Teddy Thompson at Oran Mor) so I think we'd be looking at coming up then, staying over in Glasgow and then popping to the Highlands.

I'm not sure how much we could trespass on your hospitality. (Well, infinitely, obviously) Neither of them have ever been to the Highlands so I would love to take them up to the cott. area (not least cos I think they'd love the prehistory and stuff). We could go our separate ways (e.g. stay in a hotel) and just meet up with you guys, or persuade you into borrowing your floor, hiring your cottage, demanding guided tours... what would work??? (including 'Bugger off you opportunistic English so and sos').

R and R. are very house-trained (more so than me) and I think they'd have a considerable amount in common with your gang. Mwahaha. (I have a hankering for putting delilly and ravurian in the same room and seeing what happens).

Of course I haven't run this past my other half so it's all theory but I thought I'd check out basic feasibility first.

Basic feasibility is good - don't think we're double booked for that weekend, and, strangely, I was listening to Teddy Thompson on Radio Scotland last night, and thinking he sounded worth a listen.
Subject to how happy they are sharing a room, we can do Thursday at the flat and then head for the cottage on Friday night after you do tour guide in Glasgow. I'd speak to Ms. Kiz and see what she fancies...

I saw Teddy Thompson during Celtic Connections. I thought he was rather good but Sha found him a bit more "Country" than she had expected.

When I heard him interviewed last night (on BBC Scotland's Country show) he said he just felt like making a country album - the new one is back to more like she was maybe expecting.
