I had my first session in the new gym this morning, and it didn’t go at all badly. Basically I stuck to my old routine of bike, cross trainer, bike, followed by a quick visit to the steam room and a couple of lengths of the pool. That all took me just over an hour, from getting in to leaving. I could cut that down by ten minutes or so by staying out of the pool, but I quite enjoyed my dip.
The gym looks like it will do me fine – there were around a dozen of us in at 7.00 this morning, and there are enough machines for about 5 times that number. I almost had the pool to myself.
Getting out of bed at 6.15 was a bit of a wrench, but I’m sure I can get used to that again. I could stay in bed half an hour longer and not walk the dog, but that doesn’t seem very fair on him, plus I enjoy it.
My legs are feeling a bit heavy, and I think I’ll abandon badminton tonight in favour of going to the golf range (and probably buying a driver) but I’m glad I’ve started back. With luck I can make as big a difference to my health as I did in three months last year, starting from a better base.
