Working on the parachute on my way down
Dec. 17th, 2008 09:36 pmThis is a killer week at work. We've decided to close down the project for two weeks, which means we're trying to cram five weeks of work into three, stupid mistakes are being made, and tempers are fraying. It also means I'll only be billing for three weeks, not five, this month, which is very bad timing. Ah well.
Preparations for Christmas are going well. I had a half-hearted stab at shopping on Saturday, and then a very good expedition to the Fort last night. I went to the gym and then emerged into the shopping centre when it had quietened down and got a lot of nice stuff. Tonight was a brief trip to Princes Square (always my favourite place for Christmas shopping) where I got most of what I needed. So a couple of things to get tomorrow before the Martin Stephenson gig, and I'll be set for an orgy of wrapping and delivering on Saturday morning.
Went with Unblinkered for a meal on the way home, to the restaurant formerly known as The Mystery Chinese, for their habit of supplying beautiful dishes which bore no relation to what we ordered. I thing it should now be known as The Aproximate Chinese, since one dish was what we expected and the other is one we know and love. We felt like a change tonight, and told the waitress that we really liked the lamb with corriander, but that we fancied some sea food, and what did she recommend? She suggested the sea bass, and (we were fairly sure) king prawns in egg batter. We were quite surprised when the lamb arrived, but, hey, we love the lamb. A few minutes later the sea bass was served at the table. The waitress peeled back the leek leaves it was grilled in, and shredded us out some perfect, moist, tender fish. I'd never had fish prepared at the table (like Peking duck). It was lovely.
The bill, by the way, for the fish, lamb, rice, unlimited tea and chilled melon, just nudged over £20.
No, I'm not telling you where it is.
