Stolen (not stollen) from Psychochicken:

(1) What did you do in 2008 that you have never done before?
Learn to fence.

(2) Did you keep all of last year's resolutions?
Not all of them, but enough.

(3) Have you any resolutions for next year?
Yup, mostly the ones I failed at last year ☺

(4) Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, for a change.

(5) Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully not, no.

(6) What countries did you visit?
Um, Germany, England and Ireland.

(7) What would you like to have in 2009 that you didn’t have in 2008?
I don’t think I actually want to have anything more – I just want to enjoy what I do have more. And this will not stop me buying a PS3.

(8) What date in 2008 will remain etched in your memory?
My first visit to [livejournal.com profile] unblinkered ’s Irish home. Not an uneventful weekend.

(9) What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Professionally, getting a job. Personally, making a new home for the first time in a long time.

(10) What was your biggest failure?
Breaking away totally from corporate work – but I can live with that.

(11) Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Nothing major enough to complain about.

(12) What was the best thing you bought?
Two pieces of jewellery ☺

(13) Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My brother, for starting his social worker job, and starting his masters, at the same time as moving house and bringing up the twins.

(14) Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Those are strong words. I’ve been upset by the behaviour of one person I used to be close to, but that’s more than balanced by the kindness shown by many others.

(15) Where did most of your money go?
Mortgage, rent and taxes.

(16) What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Several distilleries on Islay, driving to Germany, oh, and sausages from street vendors in Emden.

(17) What songs will always remind you of 2008?
Elbow – One Day Like This
Steve Earle – Sparkle and Shine
Billy Bragg – I Keep Faith

(18) Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder? Content and that is a win.
Thinner or fatter? Fatter.
Richer or poorer? About the same.

(19) What do you wish you'd done more of?
Fencing, writing, meditating, exercising.

(20) What do you wish you’d done less of?
Nothing – I enjoyed it all.

(21) How did you spend Christmas?
In Germany, with Unblinkered’s family.

(22) Which LJ/OD users/bloggers did you meet for the first time?
[livejournal.com profile] clanwilliam , [livejournal.com profile] gmh , [livejournal.com profile] curious_orchid ,  [livejournal.com profile] davidcook , [livejournal.com profile] rwrylsin  : who did I miss?

(23) Did you fall in love in 2008?
I’m trying to give up on that...

(24) How many one night stands?
None.

(25) What was your favourite TV show?
The Wire. It took me a while to catch on, didn’t it?

(26) Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don’t hate anyone. I don’t think I ever have (although when Thatcher dies I will indeed “Stand there laughing and tramp the dirt down”).

(27) What was/were the best book(s) you read?
I hate this question, since I can’t pick just one. So I’ll put in the last one I read “Indian Takeaway” by Hardeep Singh Kohli.

(28) What was your greatest musical discovery?
Elbow, possibly, or that Martin Stephenson is playing small gigs.

(29) What did you want and get?
A breather.

(30) What did you want and not get?
My son here for New Year.

(31) What was your favourite film this year?
The Dark Knight.

(32) What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
I was forty four, and I went to the pub with lots of nice people.

(33) What one thing would have made your year more satisfying?
If I’d joined my new gym in May instead of October.

(34) How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Relaxed.

(35) What/Who kept you sane?
Unblinkered, Merlin, Anna, and my friends.

(36) Which celebrity did you fancy the most?
I don’t tend to do crushes on celebs.

(37) Which political issue stirred you the most?
The Tories attempts to play politics over a disaster they designed.

(38) Who did you miss?
Bill, when he moved back to Prague, the London peeps.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned this year?
“All things come to those who wait, but not to those who wait too late.”
