Three Things... Watchmen, Golf and Fifi.

Watched the director's cut of Watchmen last night, and the extra 20 odd minutes does improve it. There are no new majorly spoilerfic scenes, just an extra 10 or 30 seconds here, there and everywhere which opens things up a little. A lot of them show how much of Laurie's role was left on the cutting room floor. Richard Nixon And His Amazing Prosthetic Nose get quite a bit of extra play too. Someone actually does deliver my favourite bad line of dialogue: "As you know, Dr Manhattan..." If the character knows, why are you telling him anyway? Sorry, pet hate.
I think The 50' Jiggle was cut out, in this USian blu-ray release. If anything, this version just reinforced my liking for the film.
I'm sitting here at an unearthly hour of Saturday morning because I'm about to head off for a round of golf about 90 miles away. My friend Keith is still in Scotland, and he's invited a couple of us over for a round at his splendid golf course in Fife (for American readers, there's a huge difference between a splendid golf course and a splendid golf club - my favourite course, Dunaverty, has a building two steps up from a shed, and a fantastic course with the best views in the world, some of Glasgow's posher clubs have courses that almost send me to sleep). We'll have lunch there, and I'll probably stay over tonight.
Fife (or Fifi, as one of my Spanish colleagues pronounces it) is that area of Scotland north of Edinburgh and south of the River Tay (I think). It houses St Andrews, and the whole golf industry that spawned, and has a coast dotted with impossibly cute fishing villages. I've never really warmed to it - since it's in the East coast it tends to be drier and colder than my beloved Argyll - but it's a nice place to visit.
Ok, hey ho, clubs in the car and off I go.
