f4f3: (Old Firm)

Just got back from the launch party for this down in some railway arches. Doug is a friend of a friend, and a nice enough chap. For the launch, he decided to improvise, along with a celloist and a synth player, to Jean Genet's Chant D'Amour (pretty much not safe for work).
For those of you not familiar with the film, it's a silent movie set in a jail, where all of the men while away their solitary confinement wanking. Watched, off and on, by their warder. There's the odd (sometimes very odd) erect cock, and much inhalation of shared smoke through holes in the wall, eating of flowers, poking straws through holes, etc. Oh, and a gun stuck in someone's mouth.
I'm pretty sure Genet's intention wasn't "Oh, bless." but that pretty much sums up my reaction.

Which makes me wonder, that if anything as transgressive as this was in the 1950s can be seen as sweet and romantic, what the hell will have the power to shock in 2070 or so?

Thanks for that link. Symbolism just ain't what it used to be, is it?

It reminds me of seeing Patti Smith perform one of her poems about Gumby and Pokey exploring her own library. I loved it when she put on Gumby's high pitched voice and said wonderingly, "We've been in Thieve's Journal three times!"
