High land, hard rain...
Nov. 14th, 2009 08:32 pmPerfectly pleasant weekend so far. I'd made myself available for drinks in the West End last night, but ended up dodging my own night out in favour of a very pleasant meal upstairs at the Chip. Last time I was there the food was pretty underwhelming, but everything was pretty good last night, with the exception of my ham and lentil soup (too salty).
unblinkered's pork belly suffered from being merely good, but L's crab salad was a misnomer - it was actually a full crab, dressed, with a side of potato salad. E's beef hough was pretty good, and my salmon nigh on perfect. We split a bottle of wine, had desserts and coffee, and headed back to ours through the cold, cold rain.
E and L left before 1 a.m., and I had a lovely long lie till almost 10, and then we headed out to do some bank stuff and then into town via the Chip for some bar food (excellent stovies).
I spent about 45 minutes in Forbidden Planet catching up on the DC and Marvel universes. Nice to see Carol Denvers back in the saddle as Ms Marvel (I've always had a soft spot for Marvel's first feminist superhero) and I finally read Grant Morrison's last Animal Man - I was delighted to see Lock 27 (a pub on the canal, about a mile from here) heavily featured.
Got back to the flat around four, did some tidying, and got out to the gym for another 400 calories burnt and a float in the pool.
The GI diet is going ok. I haven't actually lost any weight, but I haven't felt hungry either. I also managed to get into the 36" waist Levi's I bought around a year ago. Not easily, but I did get into them. I'll be happy when they fit comfortably...
