Making God Chuckle
May. 19th, 2012 07:38 amPlans for today are get up, have breakfast, take my laundry to this place and then walk to this place. Armed only with a Kindle, I will then conquer the sun. My original plan for conquering the sun (go at night, when it's dark) didn't work out too wel because I relied on a capitalist launch vehicle. I suppose I should add sunscreen to my shopping list... I might then try to find a way to a beach.
Last night I ventured further afield in Providence, to the other branch of The Cuban Revolution. This one was just as good as the other, with the same menu and the same mojitos. It also has live entertainment - last night a crooner and some burlesque. Despite the fact that several friends have been involved with burlesque I've never been to a live show until last night. It was a lot of fun - women of all shapes and sizes being sassy and confident and funny (funny, not especially sexy - yes, there was undressing down to g-strings and pasties, but it was knowing nudity - I enjoyed the spectacle, but it didn't turn me on at all).
I still haven't totally synched with US time, and I left at 11 or so, before the second set started. Getting back was easy - a taxi straight to the hotel. Getting there was a bit more of an adventure. I walked the length of Providence's very impressive Little Italy, and then followed Google maps along a road with no sidewalk, which I always thought was just an American cliche. No. It wasn't the best part of town, either, and I had constant images of the newspaper headline - "Scottish Tourist Killed in 'Stand Your Ground' Misunderstanding". But no, of course, everything was fine...
Right, shower and breakfast. And why not?
