Though actually I'm in bed. I braved the Providence rush-hour and took Susie (I have decided, after [livejournal.com profile] anthrokeight 's earlier comment that my Subaru is called Susie, and she is Not To Be Trifled With) across the city to a supermarket. This was called Target, and I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't as big as I'd expected - the size of a big Tesco. Still, it had most things I really needed for moving into an apartment for 3 weeks - swimming goggles, an in car charger for my iPhone, sports socks. I did forget a couple of things - washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, a towel (they have towels here, but they are puny towels). I did buy bread, pasta, cereal, ham, cheese, a pizza, marmalade, milk and sundry other useful things. This place also seems to have a kettle, so I can have real tea with breakfast tomorrow.

I left it too late to swim tonight (the pool shuts at eight) but managed a good 30 minutes in the gym. I'll hit the pool early tomorrow (my eight o'clock call has been cancelled, so not stupidly early) and find out if it's crawling (pardon the pun) with fast-stroking yuppies. My fellow tenants all resemble extras from the West Wing, and are given to rushing about looking perfect. I guess what they really need here is a sun-burned version of Shrek. I will endeavour to please.

OK, light out - I seem to have established my UK sleep cycle again, which is both reassuring and a bit rubbish. I liked being exhausted by 10 and up by six...

Target is more of a variety store that also has food. I think of it more for housewares usually.

Stop & Shop is a more full-on supermarket in that area (sign up for the loyalty card, it makes a big difference in the prices) or for fancy upscale stuff, Whole Foods (aka Whole Paycheck).

Excellent, and thank you very much - I'm going to put up a post with details of my New York visit It looks like being the second weekend in June, probably Saturday to Sunday, and I'd love it if we can say hello sometime.

I'll look forward to seeing you -- let me know what you are particularly interested in.

Also, feel free to ask me further US retail questions. I am not the traditional sort of shopaholic, but an avid bargain hunter and I may just overanalyze shopping a weeeeee bit (because why should it be different from my other interests?).

It is very addicting to see that print-out on the receipt that itemizes your savings. A few months ago I actually managed to save more than I spent, very satisfying.
