Back in the high life again...

f4f3Not so high, to be fair - I'm on the second floor of an office block on the Edinburgh Gyle business park. It's not a bad place, as business parks go, lots of trees, a nice artificial waterway to walk along at lunch time, and two train stations within a 15 minute walk. It's on the Western edge of Edinburgh, which makes it relatively easy to get to from Glasgow by car. I don't expect the 45 minute commute to last, though, since the schools will come back and the roads will get busy again.
I'm back at the desk I sat at for 2 years, near a big window and with views over that canal to the tram tracks (I actually saw a tram moving the other week, on the stretch between the Gyle and the Airport- exciting times).
I've picked up a few pieces of work, with the promise of more to come. I have a sort of floating role between three different programmes, and a remit to tighted up the varied bits of business we have North of the Border into a Scottish operation. This suits me, and we just need to find a name for the role. My friend Paul suggested Managing Consultant, which I quite like. It indicates seniority without responsibility... I'm also elegible for a company car (or a cash allowance). I have no idea what cars are available, though, and no one seems to want to tell me. So I don't know if I'm in Fiesta or Porsche territory, though I suspect I'll be somewhere in between.
More importantly, I can't find any details of a Bike To Work scheme - and I really fancy a new racing bike. It's going to be interesting to see how the money shakes down - I'm sort of fearing my first month's pay check, especially since they're very likely to shove me onto an emergency tax code. Still, the sun is shining, the skies are... well, they're a bit cloudy, but some of those clouds are white and fluffy. I think I'll go sort out what I'm doing tonight...
