Ok, I'm putting together a mix which will take my pulse rate from rest (about 80 bpm, apparently)into the weight loss zone (90-125) and leave me firmly in the cardio-vascular zone (125-150)before easing me back down to a soft landing.

I'm finding Tom Waits uniquely unqualified for this (except for "Going Out West" from Bone Machine, which has a great Drum and Bass solo. Well actually, it has a great Drum and Someone Kicking the Shit out of a Wardrobe solo, but let's not quibble).

So all suggestions greatfully received, and I promise to gym test every one...

Remixes: rarely better. I'm trying to think of an exceptional example.

Well 2 Many DJ's "As Heard on Radio Soulwax" has some good stuff... 10 c.c. vs Destiny's Child is my favourite.

I really have to be in the mood for mash-ups. Having said which, I do have a list of my own to make when I have time and have found the right software with which to do it.

Well, I'm just about to boot up iTunes and put this mix together - it's a free download, and easy to use for putting together playlists. It only has a very crude fade-up/fade-down for mash-ups though.

Oh, I have iTunes (I have a PowerBook - it'd be sacreligious not to!) ... no, I need proper mixing software.

Mine would be all tattered and battered, much like my trusty Pismo...

Mine would be new and shiny, but not much road-tested.

Incidentally, did you know that pismo is also Russian for letter?

And pivo is Czech for beer?

Actually, I like Pismo, because I always imagine Bugs and Daffy trying to get to Pismo Beach and ending up anywhere but there....

Pivo is indeed Czech for beer. I'm glad you learned the important stuff :)

I actually worked three Czech quotes into my best man's speech:

"I don't spech Czech"
"Can I have a beer please"
"Never go into a pub without money"

oh, and

"Stop getting on and off, the doors are closing"

which all went over well.

The only problem was that although Radka's sister Susanah did a great job translating my English into Czech, she didn't bother translating the Czech into English, and half the guests didn't know what the other half were laughing at.

Well, they didn't seem to mind, but then free beer and wine have that affect on me, too.
