As you may have gathered from my last post, the Friday night drinks went well. Perhaps a little too well, since most of us (a dozen or so) went on from Metropolitan in Candleriggs via an acceptable Italian meal to two different clubs. The fact that I can't remember the name of the first doesn't speak well of it, and the second was Arta, which I like as a venue but dislike as a club. Still, I danced a lot, so I must have been having fun.

I think I managed about three and a half hours sleep, and then got up, walked Merlin and headed over to my dad's golf course, to play in his club's invitational tournament. The format is that each member can invite one guest to play with, and you go out with another pair, chosen randomly. Our random playing partners were my Uncle's John and Frank, so we had a really good time on the way round. I also played pretty well. The format helped - at each hole you only recorded the better score, so if I did badly, I could usually rely on my dad scoring well. I think I had the better score at almost half of the holes, and in the end we carded a net 67, five under par. The one drawback of the day is that some folk invite pros or club champions from elsewhere to play with them, and the lowest score when I left was a 62, so we didn't really have a chance.

I did enjoy the day, though, and now I'm sprawled in front of the telly waiting for the men's doubles final at Wimbledon, with my cat and dog and some buttered popcorn jelly beans.
