It’s all gone a bit blurry…
Aug. 1st, 2008 02:35 pmThis week really has blinked past. Monday was The Dark Knight (review to follow, possibly this afternoon), Tuesday the discovery of a new treasure of a Chinese restaurant. No, I’m not telling you where it is, you’ll just go and make it busy. Och, ok then, it’s just off St George’s Cross, down in a basement. Bill, John and I were the only occidental customers, the menu was tiny, and we weren’t allowed to order from it. Bill had a tasty enough Szechwan chicken, but John and I had two extraordinary dishes. He had crispy lamb on a bed of coriander, fried in a very tasty batter with chilli and sesame seeds. I had a crispy beef dish, mounded on the plate (also with tons of fresh coriander – bushes of the stuff. Have no idea what it was called: the waitress suggested it, and couldn’t translate the name into English.
Wednesday night was spent helping
to empty his flat at then get to Edinburgh, as well as welcoming
back to Scotland. Bill’s moving back to Prague, probably on a permanent basis. I’m going to really miss him, but flights are still reasonably cheap, he’ll be back for visits, I’ll go over there, and apparently there’s this new-fangled thing called the telephone. And the internet. And internet telephony.
Last night was a dash to the supermarket for extra cat litter (Anna Is Unwell), then home for 15 minutes to get changed, then fencing, (hugely enjoyable. Managed one flukey win, and many educational losses – the rest of my gear hadn’t arrived, though, so I had to use the club breeches, lame and foil, which means I still have an excuse) then home for 30 minutes to get showered, changed and fed, then out to join my team in saying goodbye to Juan (aka The Panda) our much loved graduate trainee. He’s off to the Netherlands to work in their Patent Office. I missed the Mexican meal in Pancho Villas, which wasn’t very good, apparently, but fully participated in the drinking which followed – The Metropolitan, which was fairly lively, an after hours bar called One Up, where I had a bijoux boogey (must track down the mash up of Prince v James Brown – I think it’s called Sexy Kiss Machine) and then on to an after-after-hours cocktail bar called The Blue Dog, which was, well, ok. Their mohitos were too sweet. Got home about 4, I think, and up at 8.30. I was in the office around 9.45, not first in, but not last either.
Now I’m hanging on by my fingernails, trying not to yawn too much. The only good thing is that the rest of the office is in the same boat. There’s more outdoor Shakespeare in the Botanics tonight, and
and I were thinking about it, but the rain might preclude promenading, in which case it will be a DVD and a snooze in front of the TV. Or maybe WallE.
Saturday is BBQ’ing in Glasgow, Sunday a dash to the cottage to pick up our quarter sheep, ill cat permitting.
