I only had one in mind:

Take It With Me When I Go, by Tom Waits,

but,

Knocking on Heaven's Door, the Warren Zevon cover from his final album, when he was dying and he knew it,

Peace At Last, by The Blue Nile,

The Wild Moutain Thyme, by the Silencers

and

Sally Maclennane by The Pogues.

My epitaph, of course, will be: "Jesus, is that the time?"

As ever, this gives me a warm fuzzy... I'm off to reciprocate.

"Jesus, is that the time?" I like. Would work for me too!

DOA by the Foo Fighters!

Jim said his epitaph is going to be "It didn't do that last time." I rather like "I'm behind you!"

I am not going to have an epitaph.

*sniff*

Well, to be honest I'll find it hard to have anything to attach it to (I quite fancy being under a tree somewhere in Kilmartin Glen. Not any time soon, but, you know, eventually) but don't see why the tree should care.

I just chipped in some cash to have the gravestone on my paternal family's plot replaced. At last count my granda, granny, and two aunts were there, and, as my dad points out, next one in is the last there's space for (insert your own 'people are dying to get in' crack here). I think it's nice that it's there, but not for me. Maybe I can have it writ in water.

Anyway, I intend to live forever.

So, why no epitaph for you?

Well, I want to be cremated, and there would be no place to hang the epitaph. Maybe I could get a plane to sky-write something while the pyre is burning...

What about smoke signals?

Kilmartin would be a good place, I can see that.

Me, I want to be scattered from Liatach.

Liatach? Tempted to google, but where that?

My fault... A typo. I should have typed Liathach - it is a mountain in Torridon; a wonderful place, with a sharp ridge - not a hill for anyone with vertigo!

Ah! (Not that the typomade any difference, but at least I know where Torridon is).

I have actually stated in my will (though it won't be a funeral as such...)

Goodbye Pork Pie Hat (Charlie Mingus)
Prayer (Oh Doctor Jesus) (Mile Davis & Gil Evans)
In A Sentimental Mood (Duke Ellington)

Maybe I should add in Gloria by Patti Smith and Waterfront (12" version, natch) by Simple Minds just to wake people up!

I wrote a will many years ago when I was flying a lot for work, and every time the plane would take off I'd think, oh my god, I don't have a will...

Hee - remember hearing Waterfront for the first time at a Barrowland concert, and going to my accounting lecture next day in a "Sparkle in the Rain"t-shirt I bought at the gig. Now did that album cover suck or what?
