So, that's my two nights at the Novotel up. Safe to say, I won't be going back. It felt overcrowded, the food on offer was very uninspiring, the pool was a joke, and I just wasn't comfortable there. The fire alarm this morning wasn't their fault, but getting woken up that way after being unable to sleep until 2 was not fun.

Work is way too busy just now. Partly since we're still one man down in the programme office, partly because I've picked up new tasks over and above the stuff I normally do. The work itself is actually interesting, but there are not enough hours in the day. It looks as if I'll be extended again, till the end of May, so my modus vivendi of staying in hotels and the cottage will have to be changed. Luckily, two friends have offered me somewhere to stay in Edinburgh, so I'll be exploring those options next week.

Have I mentioned that there is a chance of some work in the States? That hasn't become any less likely. I'm still not ready to make a decision about this, but no one is asking me to make a decision about it, so I'll wait and see.

Tonight I'm staying with friends Eric and Linsay in Glasgow, mostly because tomorrow at lunchtime I'll be heading off with Eric for the weekend. We'll be taking the train to the coast, a ferry to Arran, and then another 4 ferries over Saturday and Sunday. The weather, my biggest worry, is forecast to be cold but clear. I've a little bit of fear over our Sunday itinerary, which involves three ferries and about 40 miles of cycling. We'll see how that goes.

I'm still not sure how I'm feeling. Numb, mostly, and everything seems strangely muted, like the dimmer switch has been turned down. I'm not sleeping at all well, which is very unusual for me. I'm worried about [livejournal.com profile] unblinkered, and I miss her. Not entirely surprising, given that it's not even a week since I last saw her.

This weekend will be busy, and tiring, and hopefully the sun will come out, at least for a while.

I've had a similar experience of the Novotel in Cardiff - went without hot water in my room for more than a day before they saw fit to move me into another room (no sorry, no discount). It is always unsettling when a hotel doesn't meet expectations.

But this was never going to be an easy time - hang in there.

*hugs*
