The Only Way Past It Is Through It
May. 30th, 2012 10:07 amToday my dad get's admitted for his quadruple bypass operation. Tomorrow he should be in surgery, then 2 days in intensive care, then 2 days in enhanced care, then 3-5 days in a normal ward.
I spoke to him yesterday, and he was just off the golf course. He's a bit frightened, but he's determined to go through with the op, and looks forward to life when he recovers.
I'm shitting myself.
I've been helped, a lot, by
widgetfox describing this as a routine operation. A major operation, to be sure, but also one that gets done day in, day out, with overwhelmingly positive outcomes. My Dad has never been a smoker, he's fit for his age (for any age) and the surgical team are amongst the most experienced in the world (yay for Scotland's monstrous heart condition rates). Worrying about things will not make them come out any better.
But I'm 3,000 miles away, and I'm worried.
So the next few days are not going to be amongst my best. All good thoughts welcomed, and I'll keep you up to date on what happens. I'll try and wait, and think good thoughts myself, and not count every hour between now and the weekend. I will, though.
