The dinner party went well. Apparently I can host solo.

Menu turned out to be:
Canapés (Camambert and quince wrapped in parma ham)

Langoustines and prawns with guacamole and salsa

The table laid:

And then I forgot to take any more pictures

Chicken cordon bleu
Black forest mouse thingy
Coffee

Lots of wine, lots of coffee.

And very, very nice guests. I've known Eddie for 36 years, Kay for 32, James for 20, Eric for 5 and Linsay for about 2. They all got along well, tales were told, plans were laid.

A very, very good night.

I got it yesterday from the fish shop, along with a jug, a bowl and a cheese board. And some mugs. Look, they were having a sale!

In the second photo, the langoustines totally look like they're eating the guacamole. Who could blame them?

Phew, just seen the "lots of wine" bit

Thanks - I had a lot of fun putting it together, and the company was great.

I certainly delected large amounts of it (and Allah alone is perfect, but I appreciate the thought!).

That was my intention - originally I was going to have six of the langoustines to a plate, but the fishmonger talked me out of it since a) there wouldn't have been enough room on the plates and b) it would have cost $100 for 36 langoustines. The idea was my twist on the 1980s starter of a half avacado filled with prawn cocktail.

Kir Royale on arrival, white with the starter, red with the main, dessert wines, and malt whisky afterwards.

Out of six of us there were two drivers, which was bad planning, but one of them is a very light drinker and the other was recovering from Christmas Noro virus.
